Professional Industry Training in leading edge Traditional & Digital Commercial Animation
The Diploma in Animation is an intensive 26-week program that teaches leading edge digital and traditional animation techniques and concepts in commercial narrative animation.
The course is broken up into three major areas.
- Animated storytelling and script writing
- Traditional and digital 2D animation
- 3D design, development and animation.
Storytelling for Animation is central to the course and participants spend substantial time creating animation scripts.
Stephen Grant is a highly experienced professional animator and instructor. He has recently worked on the 26 part series ‘Dogstar’ for Animationworks and has previously worked for companies such as Walt Disney Animation Australia and Amblin Entertainment in London.
Participants further develop skills in character animation, drawing, design, traditional and digital 2D animation, maquette design, model making, 3D animation and motion capture.
While working on commercially focused projects mentored by practicing industry professionals, participants are encouraged to devise & develop their own animation concepts and these may be selected for course productions.
Leading edge technology, such as motion capture devices and RETAS, a professional animation package used by Disney, Warner Brothers, DreamWorks, Sunrise and Universal Studios in making such films such as Spider-Man, Superman, Batman and An American Tail, is central to the industry based training.
Other software packages taught include 3D Studio Max and Flash and the animated drawing lab is unique to WA and features high performance computers and drawing tablets.
Graduates of the Diploma in Animation will be equipped with a range of animation and development skills and may seek employment as animators, assistant animators, clean up artists, storyboard artists, layout artists and background artist for commercial animation and game art. They will also be well placed to develop their own animation concepts.
